Keeper League help!?

I am trying to start a competitive keeper league for the upcoming NBA season. There are discrepencies between players. I want a draft. He wants an auction style format. I just want to know what anyone elses keeper league rules are. If you could help me by just saying how you have your keeper league and the rules and what not that would be most helpful. Thanks.

Keeper League help!?nba score

It all depends on preference.

My keeper league I've been in for 7 years has the following rules.

Each team is allowed to keep ONE player. If you choose not to keep a player. We have what is called a FILLER round. Based on Records from the previous year the worst team starts picking and then on your way up to the Champion. If you keep a player, you don't get pick in the filler round. After the filler round is over, you begin the first round which again starts with last years worst team and then snakes around untill you end. Make sure your draft ends with the Worst team getting the last pick of the last round.

in the NBA where talent is more cut and dry i prefer the auction format where everyone can go into the draft / auction w/ an opportunity to get their favorite players. The NBA more then baseball and football and even hockey is an individual sport and people tend to go crazy for their favorite players (LeBron, Tim Duncan, etc). and sometimes this is to your advantage because you can get up and comers and players not talked about alot for a cheaper price and build a much better team.

The best of the best!..Who would win?

If we make an NBA playoff tree and choose the best teams from different generations to see who would come out on top to represent their conference and of course, win the NBA Title, who would win...

Eastern Conference:

1.Celtics- any team they had from the their championship year's during the 80's

2.Bulls-their 96-97 season where they had the best record with Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Steve Kerr and so on

3.Sixers-their 82-83 season that won the title with the roster of Moses Malone, Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks

4.Pistons-from their 88-89 roster with Issiah Tomas

5.New York-from their championship team with Walt Frazier, Willis Reed and Debusschere back in the 70's.

6.Milwaukee-with their title roster team with Oscar Robertson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bob Dandridge

7. Miami-Their team with Shaq, Wade, Walker, Payton, Mourning

8.Orlando-their Finals team with Shaq and Penny Hardaway in the mid 90's

who would represent the East and why

The best of the best!..Who would win?college

It's always fun to indulge in this kind of fantasy exercise. If a lot of people answer the question, you will probably get a large variety of answers. People are going to have different opinions on this, and there is no way to win an argument like this.

Having said that, I hope Bill Russell does not see your question. He might look at your list, smile, shake his head and think, "Well that guy reads current events, but he doesn't know his history." You can't have a list like this without the 60s Celtics. They were a dynasty.

The 66-67 76ers were also one of the all-time best. When asked about that team, Bill Russell said, "They just kicked our butt that year."

But I can't resist playing along, because I love this stuff. In the East, my favorite would have to be the 82-83 76ers. My God, they were a dangerous team that just destroyed everyone who got in their path in the playoffs. They went up against the world champion Lakers, with Kareem, Magic %26amp; co., and just destroyed them in four straight. Nobody could believe it. Dr. J, Moses Malone, Mo Cheeks, Andrew Toney, Ivaroni and a good bench, featuring one of the best sixth men of all time, Bobby Jones, had an incredible 12-1 record in the playoffs. They were devastating.

In the West, I would have to pick the great Laker teams from the 80s (possibly the 84-85 team as the top pick) with Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Byron Scott, Rambis, and Michael Cooper and the rest of the bench rounding out a dynamic force that just seemed to hit their opponents with so many weapons from all angles.

Put those two teams together and who wins? I'd have to go with a 76ers team that accomplished such a rare feat of burying an NBA champion in four straight games.

The best of the best!..Who would win?nba odds ,nba teams

The 85-86 Celtics were the greatest team of all time. They would have run the 96 Bulls off the court !

They were way too strong upfront with Bird, McHale, %26amp; Parish, plus Bill Walton and all star Scotty Wedman coming off the bench.

You're forgetting the 1967 Philly 76ers , with Wilt, Greer, Cunningham , and also the 72 Lakers , with Wilt, West, Goodrich.

Any one of these teams would have crushed the 90's Bulls.
The Bulls. Look at their line up!
80s Celtics or 90s Bulls.... however the 60s Celtics would beat them all.

You left out the 80s Lakers, they were pretty impressive too.
East:

the 90s Bulls. Jordan-era Bulls would crush any great teams including the '86 Celtics. Their offense and defense were...incredible!

West:

Magic's Lakers.

Lakers vs. Bulls...uhm pretty much even but as much as i love the lakers, i think the Bulls were better.
the Bulls

Who'll be this year's "defensive player of the year" ?

nba's "defensive player of the year" for 06-07 season

Who'll be this year's "defensive player of the year" ?tv on pc

There are only a few players that even have a shot at this award. Duncan, Ben Wallace( he always has a shot), and Marcus Camby. I think it would be a shame if Camby does not get it this year. He has been relativly healthy( healthier than year) and he is 1st in blocks, 4th in boards. Those are awesome stats. Statisitcally, Camby is the best defender in the league, and I believe after watch well over 100 games this season that Camby is the best defensive player of the year.

Who'll be this year's "defensive player of the year" ?golf ,nba teams

tony parker he is doing really good!!
Kobe Bryant..... yeah right.

Dwight Howard.
I vote for Bruce Bowen. All around excellent defender. No one likes going up against him.
I think it will come down to Camby or Duncan. I think there is a sentiment that Camby has always been a great defender, and that this might be his only crack that the award, given how often he is injured.

However, Duncan hasn't won the award, and I think a number of experts are recognizing that Duncan has gone from underappreciated to completely forgotten. As such, a large number will put their vote toward him in the only category he has a shot of winning, sort of as an MVP consolation prize.
Sure it seems like Marcus Camby should be on the top of the list with his league leading blocks (3.2 per game) and his defensive board average (9.3) which is second only to Kevin Garnett's (10.4). However; take into consideration that the Nuggets are permitting 104 points a game, fifth worst in the NBA. How can the best defensive player in the league be on one of the league's worst defensive teams? There is no way!

My vote is for Shane Battier. Battier makes his living as a hustle player on the defensive end, where he defends three positions (shooting guard, power forward, small forward) with a high degree of skill, nets a good number of blocks and steals, dives for loose balls, and frequently draws offensive fouls from his opponent.
Alonzo Mourning.....
Probably Camby or Duncan
Well first of all its going to be from the Spurs! Which is Tony, Tim, Bowen! somebody
I think Tony Parker will win the defensive player of the year award because he has a ton of steals this season.

Why is Lebron Not A Ballhog?

Why is Lebron not a ballhog when he shoots for 8-42 in two games? He went for 2-18 in game 1 then 6-24 in game 2. He also commited 17 turnovers in two games. If he's not a ballhog then why does he awfully shoot like that and turn the ball over? Why don't he just pass the ball or is it because his pride doesn't let him do it. Also are all those stats during the NBA season all for show? Is he just playing for stats? Well to bad, he still sucks. Next MJ my *ss! He's unclutch!

Lebron: "No, I can't pass the ball. If I do that and some other guy scores well, I won't be hero. It's better if we lose than me not putting on a show."

By the way, all those rebounds and assist? He only makes assists after he is already scoring well and those rebounds? He is just grabbing them to better his stats. BALLHOG!

Why is Lebron Not A Ballhog?nba champions

Shooting 2-18 11% FG and 10 Turn-Overs, 6-24 25% FG and 7 Turn-Overs?

THAT'S A BALLHOG!

Why doesn't he pass the ball to Ilgauskas who was shooting better than him?!

Why is Lebron Not A Ballhog?nba spurs ,nba teams

you are an idiot. don't you remember when LeBron passed the ball to Delonte West for that gamewinner? Boston's defense is just too good and it's not made any easier on LeBron when you have the liability known as Ben Wallace on the court.
wtf? "No, I can't pass the ball. If I do that and some other guy scores well, I won't be hero. It's better if we lose than me not putting on a show."

Lebron is know for his passing and being unselfish.. lebron's teammates want him to shoot.. dumb asz.
True that and he cant even shoot a decent jump shot i have no idea why people think hes the best i mean the wizards were right to call him over rated he is over rated and im sure everybody but lebron fans think that
He is a ball hog. Is there even an argument? No player can average thirty and not be a ball hog... especially with that shooting percentage.
Not at all a ball hog!!! Can NoT judge Lebron just for two games....He will come around ...Look out King James will RisE Up!!! ohh chit did you see that.....
BullHog
Queen Lechoke.... The next who?
loser
thank you thats wat i been trying to stay.. his stats are overated

Does the NBA Regular Matter?

With so many teams making the playoffs why bother playing the regular season? Yes I know Golden State knocked off the Mavs last year but did the best teams play in the finals?

Does the NBA Regular Matter?nba all star

I can see your point. It's pretty obvious what teams you'll see in the playoffs (Spurs, Celtics, Suns, Lakers).

Does the NBA Regular Matter?tickets ,nba teams

Money, money and money. You can tell how much the regular season means by the lack of effort most players put out. Watch the last two minutes and save time.
yes
spurs definitely deserved to be there last year. cavs were a fluke. detroit should have been the ones there. but it would be an even worst nba finals with even lower ratings. of course thats what the NBA really care about most, $$$ and ratings.

the regular season matters to an extent, you still need to see who gets in to the playoffs but you dont have to be like dallas and win 67 games only to lose to an 8th seed.

especially in the west where it is so competitive, the regular season does matter because not everyone in the west can get the first 8 seeds.
everyone knows last years final was suppose to be the Phoenix Suns vs the Detroit Pistons. The Suns were robbed by the ref's in the San Antonio series and the Pistons made the mistake of playing to the opponents level and suffered from a bit of bad coaching in a loss to a less talented Cav's team. But to your original question, yes the regular season does matter to a degree. How you play in the regular season determines your fait in the playoffs. Home court, regardless of the Mav's slip up last year, does matter, and striving to have the best record in the confrence garuntees that your first opponent will be the 8th seed which "should" be a gimme series. Usually, one of the top 3 teams in each confrence makes it to the finals. Not to mention, in the regular season is when teams discover their identity, as a good, and not so good team. This years Heat team is a good example of that.
I'll say yes the Season does matter...you need some format to determine seeding which the NBA uses and the regular season is best suited for that format....I personally wouldnt mind reducing the amount of games in the season..(I think 82 is alot)...but that's my personal opinion....

And yes the best team did play in the Finals.....but it helped that both Cleveland and San Antonio had favorable match-ups
noo
yes
It determines who makes the playoffs.

Who is a better scorer when healthy kobe or gilbert?

lemme remind you last nba season gilbert put up 60 on kobe

Who is a better scorer when healthy kobe or gilbert?nba records

im going to have to say kobe bryant when he is healthy

Who is a better scorer when healthy kobe or gilbert?nba championships ,nba teams

KOBE

KOBE

KOBE
Easy Kobe
Kobe is the best player in the NBA. No doubt about it. Kobe has had the most impressive showing of basketball. He had 81 points. If Kobe was 6 11 like Wilt Chamberlain was he would have had 110. Plus Kobe is the MVP which means the all around best player.
Gilbert wouldn't win even if you give him Shaq in his prime. There are a few players in this league who would have won at least 2 of 3 paired with Shaq in his prime, but Arenas is not one of them.
Not even a match, Kobe all day

Did you think that Magic Johnson played sick during the Finals against the Bulls?

I think Magic knew he had hiv way before he announced that he had contracted the virus. He announced that he had it after the NBA season was over back in 1991. I watched the finals that year and I was like wow because he looked slow. I mean he didn't look like the same player against Micheal Jordan and the Bulls. Anyways, I am not making excuses for the Lakers lost.

He was healthy and HIV didn't effect him anyways! After the announcement he showed that he still had it. Proof:

Well it look like he could still play to me. Stop hating!
i don't think so... or if he did, it didn't sink in to him it was HIV...

but in reality, take a look back at the Finals videos against the Bulls... he was slower because he was getting old at that time.... or its because Mike and Scottie did a great job stopping him. :)

Do the mavericks have a better chance of winning this year with Kidd?

Just talking about the CURRENT NBA season, do the mavericks have a better chance to win it with Kidd, or did they have a better chance to win it with Diop, Harris, and Ager?

Do the mavericks have a better chance of winning this year with Kidd?nba 2k8

They have a better shot now because they'll need someone to lead the team if Dirk pulls a Dirk

Do the mavericks have a better chance of winning this year with Kidd?nba mvp ,nba teams

Yes because they have a pure point guard that is not focused on scoring, he is focused on passing, getting assists and oddly enough he averages 8 boards a game, which will help because their isint really a rebounder on the team so he will help a lot.
What up Chris M,

Well i think adding Kidd definitely makes the Mavericks a better team, but the playoffs are all about matchups. The Mavs are still soft in the middle and losing Diop will really hurt them against teams like: Spurs, Lakers, Suns and Jazz and so i think the Mavericks are still only the 5th best team in a tough, tough Western conference. Especially because the Spurs had trouble with Devin Harris. i think the revised trade definitely help them because they don't lose Stackohouse for a month as originally planned and that may help their seeding, i think it's all going to come down to matchups i mean the Lakers or Suns could end up playing San Antonio in the first round... it should be a great playoff in the West this year.

Nickster
I don't think so. I hate this trade. I don't think Kidd will make much of a difference and they got rid of a lot of young talent. I don't get it, maybe I'm missing something, I encourage someone to explain to me why this is a good trade, but I find it as mind boggling as the Shaq trade.
no. dallas gave up too much and it left them incredibly thin at C. the only guy they have down low is dampier. dirk is too soft to play inside and bass is too small and they waived fazekas. that was a dumb move for dallas. losing a young promising PG for an old aging PG who cant score or shoot anymore. plus harris is the better defender. and they lose 2 1st rounders.

the west got BIGGER, with gasol and shaq...but dallas got SMALLER with kidd and losing diop. i dont get that.

in the playoffs dampier might have to go against any of the following guys: shaq, amare, gasol, bynum, duncan, yao, boozer, okur, camby, chandler, west, etc....good luck with that mavs fans.
Much better chance with Kidd for THIS season, but they basically traded away their future PG in Harris. It's basically all or nothing for the Mavs THIS year.
no kidd is washed up and tired
they do not have a better chance with kid. they need two big men on their team, not just dirk. so no they dont. the spurs or suns do
They do have a better chance at getting past the 1st and 2nd Round, but I don't know if they'll get by the Lakers or Spurs though.

Dallas gave up their young up and coming PG for an aging Kidd. Sure it will help them in the short term and to win now. But in the long term, it will only hurt them.

They also lose alot of depth on the bench as well, who's going to defend Duncan in the low post now that Diop is gone? Dampier? Dirk?
They have a better shot offensively, but who is gonna cover all the good big men in the West? Kidd probably gives them a better shot, but they won't win all. They can't compete with other West big men.
No I don't think so because they gave there future to the Nets.
Hey they couldn't win the chip for the past two years with that line up so it means there's something wrong there right? So Kidd might actually be the missing piece.

Actually, they should've won 2 years ago vs. Miami. The NBA practically handed the chip to Wade. They wanted to hype Wade up because of popularity. Wade couldn't get 20+ Free throws in any other game except during the Finals when refs blew everything Miami's way.
Mavs are def. better, but still not as good as the Suns, Jazz, Spurs, and Lakers. I think the Hornets and Warriors could give them a run for the money and probably Rockets. If they had a semi decent Center i would say they r def dangerous, but you won't win a series; moreover, a title with Eric Dampier as ur sole big man.
their chances r better but not gonna win it

Who had a better resume at age 29, Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant?nba schedule

Kobe's number are not even close to mj's.

Who had a better resume at age 29, Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant?nba mock drafts ,nba teams

yeah and MJ has done NOTHING without PIPPEN!....

Kobe has taken the Lakers to the playoffs

3 of the last 4 times without Shaq!....

Kobe Bryant is better than Michael Jordan. Not more successful. Hasn't had a bigger economic impact. Hasn't won more MVPs. Hasn't won more titles. But he's a better player. Kobe can do everything Michael did, and even a few things Michael couldn't do. Kobe is just as good a defender. His killer instinct is just as pronounced. He can shoot, finish and explode. And just like Jordan, the more he's pissed off, the more unstoppable he is.

Kobe's streak of four straight 50-points-plus games is something none of those players can do, and it's something that hasn't been done since Wilt Chamberlain, who had an NBA-record seven straight 50-point games.
Most of those don't even matter. Steals titles? Slam Dunk Titles? Rookie of the year? Who gives a F6ck?

There are two that matter:

NBA Titles:

MJ: 2 (As Leading Role)

KB: 3: (As 2nd Option)

Leading Role %26amp; 2nd Option is a BIG difference.

Final MVP:

MJ: 2

Jordan is still better than Kobe, but it's not as complicated as you make it.
Go0d Comparison. You G0t it this time!!!!....MJ is by far the Best Basketballer of all-time!!!.....Kobe isn't even close.

G0t it? Go0d!!!
You just proved that MJ was better. Whats the question?

Just trying to diss Kobe again without really saying it right?

KING get a life...
i don't think you should judge considering Michael's career is over and Kobe is still playing but right now mj reigns supreme
HELL YEAH MJ!!!!!

GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!!

YOU CAN GO JUMP OFF OF A CLIFF IF YOU THINK THAT IT IS KOBE.
Of course, Kobe sucks compared to MJ. If anyone stands a chance at achieving MJ's credential, it's Lebron James!
why do you need to put thecollegeaward?

NCAA,NAISMITH....,
Kobe will always be the better baseball player
kobe is no jordan...never will be.
Liers will always say Kobe is better than Mike. They even misquote Phil Jackson, when he said:

"And I think it's the best that I've ever seen a player of mine play with an overall court game. I'm asking him to do so much, and he's accomplishing it."

For a fact he did say it, but did you also read the follow-up?

"I never asked Michael to be a playmaker," Jackson said. "That's the GREATEST player that I've ever had, that I could consider the GREATEST player in the game, and I never asked him to be a playmaker in those terms. I asked him to be playmaker when he was doubled or tripled. But Kobe has to set up the offense, to advance the ball, to read the defense, to make other players happy, and he's doing a great job of that."

Did Phil Jackson say MJ is the greatest player he have coached? Now this is a direct quote.

Boston-Sports Capital of the nation?

-Red Sox are up in the world series 3-0

-Patriots are undefeated and have absolutley dominated

-Celtics-NBA season hasn't started, but they've been dominating the pre-season and probably have the best three man combination this year

-Bruins-probably won't do too good but are definatley taking a step for the better. They're playing with heart...and winning

-Eagles-BC is having a historic year being ranked number 2 and are undefeated so far

Although New York has long been the sports capital of the world, Boston IS for now.

But all time it has to be New York.

51 overall championships.

Boston

33 overall championships

I was going to say no, but then I remembered how good they were doing. I'd say maybe tied with Detroit.

Wings--dominate as usual.

Lions--whoa 5-2...did hell freeze over?

Pistons--looking good

Tigers--had a good run at it

Boston is up there...
It does appear that way at the current moment. Enjoy it because it won't last.
Let's see...

Ohio State and Mizzou are doing well.

Blues and Jackets are doing well.

Hawks and Royals are long gone and don't miss them!

Cards should be there, Reds could have been there, but thems the breaks.

Colts are undefeated, too!

EDIT:

I get thumbs down because the Colts are taking down the Patriots next Sunday?!?
I have to agree with you; no-one can name a city or state that comes close.
Boston%26lt;3
As much as I love Boston, I've gotta say New York is better suited for that title. They have 2 good football teams, the Giants and the Jets(Even though they should be New Jersey teams but I won't even get into that...), 3 hockey teams, the Rangers, Islanders and Sabres, 2 baseball teams, Mets and Yankees, AND the Knicks.

I'm a Sox fan, and I hate the Rangers/Yankees, but honestly, its hard to top that.

--Edit--

Eh it depends on your definition of a "Sports Capital" is. To me it means the city with franchises which not only excel in popularity but money, fans and wins. In my opinion, all in all I think New York, maybe not how its teams are doing this second, but with its history behind it, takes the cake. I do understand your point though.

Well I think basketball is a team sport, one man cannot completely take the game in his own hands and score all the points.. Kobe has practically no help at all and if they land a good post player then I predict the Lakers get a playoff spot higher than the last two seasons have been. I say go after JO, he even WANTS to be on Kobe's team, if not, maybe Gasol could be a good possibility... These are just SOME of the records the world's greatest basketball player ever racked up, he won championship rihg after championship ring as well. But we must come to accept that MJ had help. He wasn't like Kobe who is probably suffering back spasms from carrying his team everywhere. MJ had Scottie Pippen most notably, the Chicago Bulls were a great TEAM. Lakers have a great player, Kobe is a great player and is probably the most prolific scorer since Wilt Chamberlain. All in all, MJ had learned the concept of a team sport long before Kobe will, Kobe is playing on a one man team, nobody can become great all by themselves without help whatsoever. You can say Kobe had Shaq, but Shaq was the great one, not Kobe. Shaq is in the top 10 Lakers to ever play the game in this list.

1. Wilt Chamberlain

2. Magic Johnson

3. Kareem Abdul Jabaar

4. Shaquille Oneal

5. George Mikan

6. Jerry West

7. James Worthy

8. Oscar Robertson

9. Elgin Baylor

10. Since he played with them for a small period of time: Karl Malone, the greatest player to play the game who didn't get the ultimate award, an NBA championship.

All of these players are "greater" than Kobe, Kobe is hoovering at #11. He needs to win one more NBA championship in his prime or he will be considered the 11th best.

How much do players get pay for summer leagues?

They play 6 games and some of the rookies were playing before signing a contract and most of the CBA or NBDL guys don't have contracts. Do they play for free as an audition for the coming season or do they get pay the same way as a 10 day contract?

* 10 day contract - base on the percentage of the NBA minimum salary - NBA season is approx 8 months or 240days so they get pay 10/240*minimum salary

** minimum salary base on years of NBA experience, i.e. 2 years experience's salary %26gt; 1 year experience's salary %26gt; 0 year experience's salary etc...

Who do you think should replace kobe bryant during the footlocker 3 point shooting contest?

Kobe is not 100 percent sure if he'll play in the 3 point shoot out but he probably will on the all star game, but if he sits out of the 3 point contest who do you think should replace him?

There are a lot of great shooters that can replace kobe like dirk, and ray. But i don't want to see them in the 3 point contest agian because they already played in the 3 point contest like 120983201983012 times and both already won a few.

If I had to choose who should replace kobe bryant is michael redd. The guy has never competed in a 3 point shooting contest, and he's one of the best when it comes to scoring on the shooting guard position. he holds an nba record 8 3's in 1 quarter and shot 45 percent from the 3 during one season. he's at about 38 percent this season, plus it makes the 3 point shooting contest more exciting, because he has the most unorthodox shooting form and release. he's also left handed and has a poor form but beatiful release.

who do you think should replace kobe?

I'd say Anthony Parker of the Toronto Raptors. He's second in 3fgp this year, and actualy has more 3 point makes (I think +5) and almost 100 less misses than Kobe.
why not try shaq, just for fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do agree that this jason kidd trade for dallas will make sense next year?

Houston finished 17-18 in the 1994-95 season after acquiring Clyde Drexler at midseason and still went on to win the championship. Another pertinent bit of history along those lines that the Mavs know all too well: Shaquille O'Neal's Miami Heat went a humbling 2-12 against division leaders in the 2005-06 season and wound up overturning Dallas' 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals to win it all....so all hope is definitly not lost for dallas

Do agree that this jason kidd trade for dallas will make sense next year?nba season

definitely it will, the mavs knew about it when they acquire kidd, that somehow they foresaw that this trade can go either way for them this season, if they will be out fishing early this playoffs, they will surely be on the right track next year.

team's chemistry can be achieve through time, so if they are good now, they will be at their best next season...

Do agree that this jason kidd trade for dallas will make sense next year?nfl ,nba teams

Dallas all the way!

Just look at he NY Giants!
even this year 2
Yes, once kidd gets more accustomed to the system, the mavs will be rolling once more. However, im afraid that a year or two is all they have left in him.
It's possible, dang, you did some research! They don't have a lot of time now, Kidd might be good for another 2 years, 3 tops.
I think they need a game like the one vs Suns. remember how badly the Suns were struggling before getting a win over the Spurs on ABC?? After that they have gone 13-3. I think Dallas will start surging a bit, but I think they can at best make the 6th seed, at the VERY best.
Yeah, the Mavs have been better since that trade with NJ.
its made sense. mavs have been better since the trade, if you dont think so, go look up the stats. mavs can still win it all in the west, they match up well, theyve had many close games against the better teams.

OJ.....Simpson or Mayo?

the USC trojans basketball program just locked down high school sensation OJ Mayo to play for the team next season. supposedly, he is talented to play in the NBA, but with the new rules, he will be attending USC for at least one year.

Dirk Nowitzki = A-Rod of the NBA?

After MVP rumors all season, his team flops to Golden State in the first round, and he was dismal, so I ask you, do you think Dirk will be plagued with the reputation of performing in the Regular season and then just losing it? Remember last year, they were up 2-0 in the finals.

Dirk Nowitzki = A-Rod of the NBA?nba

Dirk Nowitzki = A-Rod of the NBA?

I actually think this is a good analogy because they both have the same problem, no mental toughness and not being able to produce in the post season. True A-Rod is a future HOF and he played well with the Rangers. But ever since joining this supposedly better team he has not been able to translate regular season success to post season success. The same could be said for Dirk, he just can't produce when it counts.

Only difference between the A-Rod and Dirk however is this. A-Rod is only expected to play well on his team, he's not expected to be a leader, Jeter already fills that role. Dirk however is expected not only to play well but to be a leader. He can't seem to be one and that is one of the reasons why the Mavs have not won a championship.

Dirk Nowitzki = A-Rod of the NBA?nhl ,nba teams

Dirk has earned that reputation as a choke artist and not a team leader

but A-Rod of the NBA? he's not close to the player A-Rod is and basketball players have more of individual impact on the game.

Dirk is not a leader and has been pathetic this year
Dirk is not the A-Rod of NBA. A-Rod is already HoF worthy but Dirk is not. A-Rod carried his Rangers team which had nobody on it, whereas Dirk has a host of very good players to play with.

A-Rod has always showed his leadership abilities. Dirk hasnt.
NOPE. Dirk may be able to shoot the ball but he cant beat the Warriors in the first round. He is not the A-rod of the NBA. If he won the championship lat year maybe i would have reconsidered.

Do you think donovan had a rick pitino nightmare in his sleep and decided to grab the known and igno

unknown. emember rick pitino was a top collegiate coach and was coaxed into the NBA were he sucked so much donkey nuts he became a laughing stock. then he tried going back to collegiate level and he was not as respected anymore cuz he sucked so much nuts in the nba. dude was like lucky to win 20 games in a season, thats how much he sucked

Do you think donovan had a rick pitino nightmare in his sleep and decided to grab the known and ignore the?basketball

That guy scared no if and or buts about it. Say what you want boutcollegecoaches and their fame. The real test is in the NBA where the best players in the world play. I'm tiered of people saying coaches in the NBA have it easier thancollegebecause their surrounded by a bunch of millionaire babies who want take direction. If colleges coaches were so great than why can't the majority of them pass the test of the NBA schedule. Whats easier coaching 27 games or 82. Thats a no brainer. This guy needs to stay at Florida cuz in the NBA it aint gonna work

Do you think donovan had a rick pitino nightmare in his sleep and decided to grab the known and ignore the?hockey ,nba teams

yes. he was afraid of failure and was afraid he would be remembered as anothercollegecoach who failed in the nba rather than the guy who won back to back championships. he didnt want to become another mike montgomery, rick pitino, tim floyd etc... the losers. at florida he would be treated like a god, like coach K is at duke.

Which NBA team will lead the league in the 2006-2007 season?

I think its going to be the Mavericks because they are doing better in the playoffs than in the regular season. It could also be the Pistons again, but I highly doubt they will by the way the played in the playoffs.

the NETS of course
The Knicks...the theory being they fall down so far they land on the top of the pile
The Cavs.....Lebron is improving too fast
The Heat as long as SHAQ stays healthy and WADE continues to dominate the league then they will win!!
Mavericks
Pacers. Without all the injuries, they could've made first this year too
Blazers.
The Mavs baby

Whhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...
The Cleveland Cavs. As much as I hate the Cavs, they have shown that they have the ability to do well. They took Detroit seven games in the playoffs this year, and Detroit was the best team in the league. They are a young, talented team. If all the pick-ups they made last year, finally live up to their potential, the Cavs could be a force to be reckoned with.
DETROIT BASKETBALL
The Lakers. who cares if they suck. they can do it.

How to save and load XB NBA 2K6?

Have attempted a couple of times to begin a season, played 1 game, thought I saved it and when I came back and attempted to load the season nothing is there. Please your assistance is needed. I know this sounds lame, but I have never had this problem with any other game.

How to save and load XB NBA 2K6?nba championships

When you want to load a game in NBA 2K6 after you saved, don't go back to the Association or season mode. Go straight to the Load/Save option and load it there. Every time you go to GameModes then Association, you will only get the option to start a new one. It's quirky, but I have run into this a bunch of times before.

hard to compare because of different postitions, but scoring 100 points in a game, not to mention as a center, you've gotta go with wilt!!!

don't get me wrong, michael jordan is good, probably the best, but i'm going with wilt on this one.
MJ.

He knows the game Better.
M J as in michael jordan not michael jackson.

Greatest of all tyme!
jordan...because he played in an era where there were a bunch of amazingly talented wingmen or swingmen and he was the best out of hem plus he won 6 rings and wilt only won 1
kobe is the greatest basketball player to walk the earth **** king ****** kobe hater!!
Its to hard to compare guards and centers. Wilt is the best center of all time and MJ is the best guard of all time
MJ- He played against better competition, plain and simple
Wilt Chamberlain 鈥?Chamberlain re-wrote the record books and dominated like no player before or since. His first year in the league, he set rebounding and scoring records that no OTHER player before or since has broken. Wilt set so many records and put up such outrageous numbers that they began to lose meaning. If LeBron James scores 50, it's headlines on ESPN. Wilt averaged 50 for an entire season. It was just another day at the office for him. Let's analyze Wilt's game:

Scoring: Wilt is simply the greatest scorer ever. Jordan fans will claim that because Jordan averages less than 0.5 points per game more for his career, this makes him better. However, they don't consider that Jordan didn't log in as many career minutes, nor as many minutes per game. When both men put their minds to scoring, it's not even close. Wilt once AVERAGED 50.4 ppg. Jordan's best season is 37.1 ppg - a number Wilt bested on 3 different occasions. Jordan never had a 70 point game. Wilt had 6 games with at least 70. Wilt's best game is 100 points. Wilt won 7 consecutive scoring titles, which is the same number as Jordan's best streak. The only reason Wilt quit winning scoring titles is because his coach asked him to pass off more (Wilt was already in the top 10 in the league in assists). Wilt gladly did and he and 3 of his teammates each put up over 18 ppg the next season, on their way to the title. Wilt has almost 80 more games with 50+ points than Jordan. Wilt also holds the record for most free throws made in a game (28), most field goals made in a game without a miss (18), most consecutive field goals without a miss (35), best field goal % in a season (nearly 73%), most times leading the league in fg% (9), most consecutive games with 40+ points scored (14),

He won seven scoring titles, 11 rebounding titles, and led the league in minutes played 8 times. He averaged over 45 minutes per game every game of his career. In 1967-68 he led the league in assists 鈥?something Jordan has never came close to doing. Chamberlain holds the records for points scored in a season and a game (100), rebounds in a game (55), season, and career., as well as minutes played in a season (he averaged 48.5 min/game in 1961-62), and field goal percentage in a season (72.7%).

Rebounding: Again, Wilt dominated the record books. Most rebounds in a game (55 - against Bill Russell). Best rebounding average in a season (27.2), and best career rebounding average (22.9), most seasons leading the league in rebounding (11). Detractors will claim the artificial numbers are because Wilt played a lot of minutes and there were more rebounds to be had than when, say, Dennis Rodman played. However, consider that Wilt played a lot of minutes because he was durable and had stamina. It's not his fault that other players lack his stamina. As far as available rebounds, this is true, but Wilt had to expend a lot of energy on the offensive end. A guy like Dennis Rodman was worthless on offense. He simply camped out and cherry-picked. He was never the focal point of offense. He wasn't even the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th option, and to use available rebounds means you are comparing players to their peers. Doing this still shows Wilt's greatness, as Rodman only led the league in rebounding 7 times - 4 less than Wilt.

Michael Jordan was a very good rebounder at guard, but Wilt was the very best rebounder in history. Jordan was not the greatest rebounding guard in history. Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson are two that immediately stand out as better than Jordan. Even comparing the two players shows Wilt is better.

Passing: Jordan averaged less than 1 assists per game in his career than Wilt. This is paltry when you consider two things. First, Jordan, as a guard, handles the ball much more than Wilt. Since I was fair and compared their rebounding to their peers, rather than to each other (because a center SHOULD have more rebounds than a guard), it is only fair to compare assists to their peers. Wilts 4.4 puts him in elite company at center. He may very well be the best. Jordan's 5.3 is not outstanding for a guard. Please don't say, "But he's a shooting guard". When Jordan played point guard, in 1989, he only averaged 8.0 apg, so John Stockton, Oscar Robertson, and Magic Johnson do not feel threatened. Jordan's assists also went on a downward spiral after 1992.

The second point to consider is how an assists was credited in the 1960s and the 1980s. In the 1960s, if a player received the ball and took one dribble, the passer was NOT awarded an assist. Chet Walker cost Wilt countless assists, because he always took a dribble before laying it in. In the 1980s, the assists ruling was much looser. Along with "scorekeeper's discretion", this guideline was given: if a player receives a pass and makes a direct line to the basket, without altering his course due to a defender, then the passer receives an assists. This means, in theory, that Magic Johnson could inbound the ball to James Worthy, and if Worthy dribbled the length of the court, making a straight line and dunks the ball, then Magic should get an assists. I know it's an extreme case, but the point is, 1980s players received many assists than 1960s players did not. That is why assist averages were higher in the 1980s, even though they were scoring less points. With that in mind, if you normalize their numbers, you see that Wilt's assists were actually higher than Jordan's.

Furthermore, Wilt finished in the top 10 in the league in assists 3 times. In 1968, Wilt led the league in assists (before 1969, rebound, assist, and scoring leaders were determined by totals, rather than average). Wilt remains the only non-guard to ever lead the league in assists. Jordan finished in the top 10 in assists one time (#10 in 1989). Remembering that assists were awarded more generously in Jordan's era than in Wilt's, Jordan best season 8.0 is STILL less than Wilts (8.6).

Defense: This is actually the area that is a push. Both men are considered among the very best defensive players at his position. There really is no way of determining how each rate at their position. I believe Wilt is no better than #2 (Bill Russell is a clear-cut favorite), but after that, Wilt is in the same class with Nate Thurmond, Bill Walton, and Hakeem Olajuwon. Jordan, likewise, is in the top tier of his position, along with players such as Walt Frazier, K.C. Jones, Sidney Moncrief, and Joe Dumars.

Defensive player of the year was not created until 1980. It is safe to assume that Wilt would have won it in 1972 and possibly in 1973, but it's speculation, so it's really pointless. All-defensive teams were not created until 1969.

Final Analysis: Detractors try to attribute Wilt's dominance to height. This is absurd, because Kareem Abdul-Jabbar couldn鈥檛 equal these feats, despite being taller, and playing against Chamberlain for four seasons. If size mattered, then how come players like Shawn Bradley, Rik Smits, Ralph Sampson, Gheorghe Muresan, Mark Eaton, Yao Ming, or Dikembe Mutombo have never challenged these feats? Wilt had 3 inches on Russell. Ming enjoys almost 5" of height advantage over Shaq, but you don't see him scoring 60 or grabbing 55 rebounds against the Diesel. Furthermore, to use height as an excuse is to say that Jordan needs handicaps to look good. Why not spot him 2 strokes per hole if you golf with him? Furthermore, while they chalk up Chamberlain's rebounding dominance to his height advantage, they cannot explain why he led the league in assists, and Jordan could not.

In addition to re-writing the record books, Chamberlain re-wrote the rule book, as the league passed many rules to try to limit his dominance. Jordan, on the other hand, has been the beneficiary of rules passed to ENHANCE his scoring (hand checks, defined zones, 3-point shot, flagrant fouls).

Jordan-supporters know that Jordan鈥檚 feats cannot match up to Chamberlain's. That is why they always respond with lame excuses and a lot of "yeah buts." The fact is, Wilt Chamberlain was the most dominant player in history. Since you clicked here, your standard of comparing players is by overall dominance, so you can see that Jordan is not the best.

regular Season Records WC = 56 MJ = 4

Number of scoring championships WC = 7 MJ = 10

Number of 50+ point games WC = 119 MJ = 30

Number of times led league in assists, fg%, minutes, and rebounds* WC = 29 MJ = 0

2EZ!
wilt chamberlain

he overall changed the game and how we play basketball today.
like i said on your other question is that from the information you laid out they seem about equal but because jordan has done a few more things better than wilt then i have to go with MJ but only by a hair.
Michael Jordan is the best there will ever be
I'd say Chamberlain is the better player. During Chamberlain's time, there were the Celtics that were unbeatable with Bill Russell in the middle. Jordan may have had troubles but he never had to match up with one of the greatest defensive players ever .

Who's the better player, Dwayne Wade or Steve Nash?

Wade is 10 times better and 10 times more valuable then Nash..... Wade is a proven 34.7 ppg Finals MVP NBA World Champion, that already beat Nash at what Nash is best at(2006 SKILLS CHALLENGE!). Now lets see Nash beat Wade in a dunk contest(that'll never happen)...lol. Yeah, Wade took Nash's crown %26amp; Wade's been further then Nash ever been....... and Wade's stats are better(Wade's in the top 5 scorers)............and last but not least, Wade's FINALS MVP AWARD(34.7 ppg that he actually earned) is alot more valuable then Nash's 2 REGULAR SEASON MVP's(something that he didn't deserve, alot GREAT players got robbed the last 2 years)......and if you don't think so, just ask any player in the NBA what award they'll rather have. They'll say Finals MVP because that means you just won a championship and achieved your dream. I seen alot of season mvp's say that this award(season mvp) doesn't mean anything if I don't win a championship with it.. So did Nash win a championship the last 2 years?LOL

Who's the better player, Dwayne Wade or Steve Nash?nba tv

Why ask the question if you've already made up your mind?

Who's the better player, Dwayne Wade or Steve Nash?nba dunks ,nba teams

Umm gee i wonder who support..... Nash is a better player. Basketball is not all about scoring... But if it was Nash would still be better. Lets see he's the leader of the highest scoring team in the NBA... Nash's scoring has gone up for the past couple years which is why he won the MVP over shaq... (as if he had a chance) and lebron his team barely made the playoffs while the suns were on fire! And theres really noone else on the team that would have won the MVP award. Shaq was pretty pathetic in the Finals.

Btw skills challenges mean nothing -.-
wade puts up the better stats, but nash makes the players around him better, thats why he wins the MVP awards. It shouldn't always go to the player with the best stats, it should go to whoever was most valuable to their team.
STEVE NASH
come on hands down d wade
why did you even waste 5 points and ask that question? of course d-wade
nash helps his teammates, wades better at shooting
In my estimation, two-time MVP Steve Nash is far superior to the talented Dwayne Wade. Nash runs his team and orchestrates the other four players on the court better than any other player of the last ten years. Wade's offense comes strictly out of isolation plays. In addition, do not forget that Wade has the luxury of the decade's best big man in Shaq. Anytime Wade drives and gets stuck in the air, he can lob it to Shaq for a thunderous two points every time. In addition, Wade's jumper is shaky while Nash shoots 53% from the field and shoots 89% from the charity stripe. Sure Wade could win a dunk contest, seeing as he is far superior athletically, but what would be the result of a passing, dribbling, or shooting contest between the two? Yes Wade has one ring to Nash's zero, but Wade had other key contributors like Payton, Alonzo, Jason Williams, Antoine Walker, and James Posey. Last year, Nash's big guy (Amare) was injured all year, while he was just developing his rapport with emerging stars Boris Diaw, Leandro Barbosa, and Raja Bell. Nash single handedly made all three of those guys great NBA players and this year the Suns will again battle the Mavericks for Western Conference Supremacy. If Phoenix does advance to the Finals, I don't see an Eastern Conference team that could keep up with them except for maybe the Detroit Pistons, who could slow down the tempo and have Billups (a great defender) limit Nash's impact. Otherwise, look for Nash to add a ring to his two MVP trophies at home.

NASH %26gt; WADE
steve nash he won mvp twice in a row
what i think is that Steve Nash is the better player!!!

yes you might say wade has better shooting skills and whatever... but what made Steve Nash MVP was that he made players around him better. When has Wade done that? Steve Nash deserved been MVP 2 years in a row..
I believe that both Dwayne Wade and Steve Nash are both good team players and good role models but between both players, I would say that Dwayne Wade is better because he is a leader who never gives up even when the season does not go the way in which he planed.
Nash is better right now, just because of the MVP's and his good all-around play. He's gonna pass the torch onto Wade in about 5-7 years and Wade's gonna step up and become a NBA great.

PS- Can you believe Steve Nash cut his hair lol
D-Wade
i dont know anything about either player.. but i know that ive never heard of dwayne wade. so from my opinion i would say steve nash. if ive heard of him and dont watch much basketball than he has to be good, because the people i watch sports with when i do only talk about the good ones.
I think nash is a overated player. yes he can shoot and so can wade. but wade has better skills on the court and is a classeir guy off the court DWYANE WADE IS BETTER!! NASH SUCKS!~!!
wade is a steriod user, i have no respect for that a s s hole. Why hire your own doctor to do drug tests and not use the team doctor??? Hmmmmmmm investigation should be going on here. Bottom line Wade is a steriod user so it enhances his game.

As far as nashhole goes, he doesn't deserve any awards. Maybe a most likely to make the MVP title lose its credibility award. Thats what he deserves.
dwyane wade because he has proven that he can win the championship.period.
Steve Nash is better because he creates for other players not just himself. D-wade gets it for himself. Nash hasn't gotten to the finals because the west is way better than the east.
so you meen to tell me that wade is more valuable than nash. whats the heats record this year 25-26. Whats the suns 39-12 I think that means nash is better
Dwayne Wade period.
Dwyane Wade is the better player because he can do everything Nash can and can't do. One of them is win a championship.

Steve Nash is a one dimensional player that only plays offense. His offensive numbers are due to the fact he has two all-stars in Stoudemire and Marion and the Suns run and gun offense.

Nash has no defensive skills whatsoever.
right now it has 2 b steve nash because he has won more mvp's than d-wade. i like d-wade but steve nash will become one of the greatest nba point guards of all time. even though d-wade won the title he still has to win mvp awards. no nba finals mvp's dont count.lol.
I think wade is better

But anyway, both are good because they know what they are doing

we cant say no one is

thats the fact
steve nash is better cause wade's team sucks
Dwyane Wade is much better i dont care what anyone thinks or said!

Part5. For all the MVP candidates, wat you think?

The greatest since MJ. Most dangerous offensive weapon in NBA history. he go by the name of Kobe 'black mamba' Bryant.

When the season started (as a laker fan) i was thinking number6 here we come. and that was THINKING TOO FAR. we opened up with a loss to houston and i was thinkin, here we go again. then amazingly the lakers went into the new year as one of the best in the west, it was already startin to get crowded but what surprised me is how the lakers kept it together after losing their big center Bynum and their emerging 6th man Ariza.

For the lakers to end up holding the 1st seed right now, its even more impressive than bostons miracle turnaround. SERIOUSLY its that good of an achievement. THINK. if phoenix, dallas, san antonio and utah lost their key players, would they survive in the ultra-competitive west? if they did, holding down a playoff spot would be an amazin achievement. the lakers aint just done that, they're 1st!!

so no doubt, no surprises.

Kobe Bryant 2008 MVP.

Part5. For all the MVP candidates, wat you think?nba live 2005

ughhhh. I hate Kobe but I admit he deserves the MVP!!

Part5. For all the MVP candidates, wat you think?nba update ,nba teams

well i guess youre forgetting the part where LA got gasol for nothing. yea bynum went down, but a few days later they got gasol to replace him. yea kobe definitely deserves MVP praise, but CP3 and what he has done with NO is more impressive than what kobe is doing with LA. NO didnt even make the playoffs last year, they went from out of the playoffs to the #1 seed(until recently) in the west. and CP did it with the worst scoring bench in the league. kobe has 1 of the best benches in the league.
I was worrying you wouldn't take him down as a candidate. Kobe Bryant is the best player in the NBA and he is really leading his team. Look where they are now. 1st place in theest!! Thats not easy. He is passing the ball a lot now, and that has resulted in the Lakers being the best team in the West.

KOBE FOR MVP!!!
you got this right.

Kobe is playing the best ball in his life, and he has made several key players having career years. And CP3's "he should win MVP, cuz the Hornets are on top of the West" argument no longer work now.
all those teams wouldve survived and still be strong if they wouldve landed gasol for a bag of cheetos.
LOL...they still had kobe bryant...that's how they held down their playoff spot....
the focus and will to win differentiate kobe from the other players. i have followed kobe from the the day he was booed as a rookie when he shot two air balls against utah in a crucial game. he skipped summer break and stayed in the gym most of the time to improve his skills. with focus and determination, i think we haven't seen the best of kobe yet. he may win or not mvp this season but i believe he will keep on improving and will develop himself as a better person outside of basketball. keep watching and thank you kobe for showing me the greatness of basketball as a team sport. i can easily relate to how i manage my business.
To me it does not matter to me any more if KOBE ever gets the league MVP. It lost some creditably once Dirk won it. KOBE will win the MVP that counts the most and that's the playoffs MVP. He will have another ring and a playoff MVP, if you ask me that's far better then league MVP. We all know he is the best player in the world. Laker fans and KOBE do not need for KOBE to win the league MVP to prove how great he is. A ring and finals MVP is much better. GO LAKE SHOW!!! GO KOBE!!!

Should the 2nd pick in the nba draft go to the best team that didnt make the playoffs?

Pros

Well atleast the teams will be playing to win for something.

A team's season hasnt been totally wasted and they get rewarded for playing well throughout the season

It will be more competive with a decent team with another good player

Cons

A team that needs the pick loses it

Should the 2nd pick in the nba draft go to the best team that didnt make the playoffs?2003 nba draft

Your idea makes absulutely not sense, but as a Warrior fan I completely agree with everything you said.

Should the 2nd pick in the nba draft go to the best team that didnt make the playoffs?nba free agents ,nba teams

That is totally stupid.

No they should try hard anyways, thats why we have the current lotto set up so everyone has a chance. If they dont want to win and just sign draft picks then just let the other team win, its that simple.

Denver Out-Beat the Warriors get over it already and stop asking these dumb questions because you want your team to get the #2 pick

Was Michael Jordan overrated at basketball?

No doubt jordan is a great player however I think they were couple players who were better than him who did not get credit. 1. Magic Johnson he layed 5 less regular seasons than jordan due to early retirement yet he won 5 rings and went to 9 championship. He lost those 4 champs to isaih pistons, dr. j 76ers, and bird celtics. When jordan won 6 rings, magic already retired, and bird and isaih left the game which resulted in their teams being dismantled. 2. I feel that oscar robertson was better than jordan. He averaged a triple double 5 times in the regular season, something that jordan never did even in a playoff series. 3. Wilt chamberlain could be argued as better than jordan, however he did not had a great team around him. Averaging over 20 rebounds a game for his career, averaging 30 points a game, and averaging 50 points in a season, and scoring 100 points in a game. Jordan was also a product of great advertising and an nba league that made calls in his favor.

Was Michael Jordan overrated at basketball?nba live 2006

yes michael jordan is overated,, the easter bunny and santa claus are much better,,but thats only if tinker bell splashes them with fairy dust,,,are you retarded,,have you ever seen jordaan play,, let me guess you think d-wade or kobe are the best players in the leauge which would make you in about the 4th grade

Was Michael Jordan overrated at basketball?nba gear ,nba teams

nope, he wasn't
nope.. he really is good.. the best basketball player there is... what you said about wilt being better than jordan is a joke.. wilt don't even know how to shoot A ball. . He's just good at the low post you know... the magic johnson, no doubt he's one of the best players but not better than jordan... Jordan knows how to steAL a ball, dunk the ball, shoot three, perform a clutch play, buzzer beaters, fancy passes and impossible shots.. . There is no one better than Jordan, and about WIlt, it's just stats you know, .. you CAN'T JUDGE A PLAYERS ABILITY THROUGH HIS STATS.. WATCH THE PLAYER HOW HE PLAYS AND YOU WILL KNOW HOW GREAT HE IS...
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...

If the NBA had 1/8 the heart today that it did from the time Magic and Bird hit the scene until the time Mike stopped being the Mike we all know and love it might be worth watching.

It's "easy" to sit back now that a guy is retired and too old to light up guys for 35 six or seven consecutive nights in a row and talk crazy.

That's all saying that Jordan is "overrated" is "CRAZY TALK".

People that put Jordan and Overrated in the same sentence are a complete mystery to me. There was no one around like Jordan in the 1950's, 60's, 70's or 80's.

No one even came close!

Do you honestly think Oscar Robertson would have averaged a triple double in the 80's? Who has done it since? NO ONE. What do you think Jordan would have done in Oscar's era?

Everything you see small forwards and shooting guards do now can be directly linked to Julius Erving, then Connie Hawkins and guys like Oscar Robertson before Connie.

Jordan was THE ONE with the determination, skill and will to bring together so many facets of what other great shooting guards and small forwards had done before him.

There is literally no aspect of what a small forward or shooting guard should do that Jordan did not excel at. He is in the conversation when you talk about: the best scorer, best defender (on and off the ball), best penetrator, best perimeter shooter (inside three points), best ball handler or best passer.

You cannot discuss the greatest shooting guards or basketball players to ever play the game without making a strong case that Jordan is that player. Ultimately though "best" can be subjective.

Let's hear from Magic Johnson. Magic, what do you have to say?

"When it comes to basketball, there's Michael Jordan and there's EVERYONE ELSE."

Thank you for your HONESTY Magic.

Peace out,

Basketball Cop
no
no but ppl think mj was good when he stared but they dont noe that he wasnt good in his rookie years he didnt even play he was good when he was around his late 20s but mj is still 1 of the best ever played but i dont think he is the best ...points n rebound etc... is wilt chambelain but it was long ago so not many ppl noe him just like mj after like years n years ppl gonna 4get him so some still member...
Jordan haters say he is overrated. However, i come to his defense. With due respect to those stats you have presented, MJ's stats show his greatness as a player. He has won everything there is to win (except the all-star game 3 point shoot-out where he finished dead last one time!...that's a fact for you, guys!). ROY, MVP, Olympic Golds, Finals MVPs, Scoring Championship, Steals leader, Defensive player of the Year. He has everything in his trophy case. It's a tribute to him that he is well-loved and respected in the game.

Had he kept on playing basketball and not switch to baseball, he could've challenged Kareem's all-time scoring leader mark.

Jordan has the highest average all-time both in the regular season and playoffs (30ppg and 33ppg). He owns the all-star books, too.

Everybody would have wanted Michael Jordan in his team (except the 1985 Portland T'blazers). He is a leader and a winner through and through!

Watching MJ play is like watching poetry in motion. During his time, nobody wants to be matched up with him as he will take it as a personal challenge to totally embarrass you in a game on both sides of the court and more often than not, he was successful. His being a media favorite is a testament that he is really a likable fellow. He's an advertiser's dream endorser.

He's got charisma. He drew fans wherever he went. If he wasn't good or just a splash in the pan, the fans would've gone away. Those who saw Michael Jordan play and cannot accept the fact that he was great during his prime are lying. Facts don't lie. Michael's greatness gets under their skin. How they wished Michael played for their home team...
Oh Joy another Jordan is overrated question . . . . it makes you wonder where is that a-Wolf guy who used to do this.

*cuts and paste*

Lets not harp too much on Jordan's "will to win". Remember, Russell's "will to win" carried his team to 11 championship rings on 12 Finals appearance in 13 years. Bill have an 11-0 record when it comes to do or die games. The guy has never lost a Game 7, with or without home court advantage.

Back in the '62 season, Russell took himself out for 4 games and the Celtics lost 4 straight games even with Red Auerbach, Cousy, Sharman, the Joneses, Ramsey and other HoF's.

Back in '69, Russell took himself out for 5 games because of an injury and the Celtics lost 5 straight even with HoF's Sam Jones, Havlicek, Satch Sanders, and Bailey Howell.

The instances that i mentioned are the two worst losing streaks of the Russell-era Celtics. The latter is the worst losing streak of the Celtics since Red Auerbach took over the helm.

When Russell retired after the '69 season, the Celtics went down from 48 wins to 34 even with HoF's such as Havlicek, Sanders and Howell. A huge 14 game drop (when Jordan "retired" in '94 the Bulls went "down" from 57 wins to 55. A pitiful 2 game drop.). And the modest 48 wins that the Celtics garnered during the '69 season is the lowest number of wins that the Celts have during the Russell -era and occured only because Russell spent a lot of time in the injured list and/or recovering.

Lets not even start making "What if" scenarios saying that Jordan could also win 8 straight games if he hadnt retired for 2 years because Russell wouldve won 13 rings in 13 years in more credible "what if" scenarios.

Back in '58, the reigning MVP, Russell injured his ankle in the Finals series, and the rest of the Celtics, Red Auerbach, Cousy, Sharman, the Joneses, Ramsey etc. could not contain HoF's Bob Petit, Cliff Hagan, Ed Macauley and the rest of the Hawks from winning the championship.

Back in '67, Russell and the Celtics lost Wilt and the 76ers in the eastern Conference Finals because Russell is still a rookie player coach. If Red Auerbach was coaching the celtics back then and Russell could concentrate on his duties as a center, they wouldve beaten that ballyhooed 76ers team. In 12 games during the 66-67 regular season, they beat Philly 7 times. At any rate, the Celtics beat the same 76ers team in the playoffs the year before and after (with Russell leading the Celtics with a come from behind playoff victory after being down 3-1).

Unlike Jordan's UNC, or Kareem' UCLA, or Wilt's KU or Magic's Michigan, or Bird's Indiana, Russell came from an unknown school, the University of san Francisco, with an insignificant basketball program. The USF team that Russell played with was described as a "playground pick-up team" since USF could not scout nationally or compete with other NCAA schools with its limited athletic budget for talent, the school was forced to play local boys only. 12 of USF's 15 players were from the Bay Area and only one was out of state. USF is so insignificant that Russell and hiscollegeteammates dont even have a gymnasium to practice. Despite of this handicap, Russ carried his unknown school to a 55 game winning streak, often playing on the road (USF' homecourt, iirc was Kezar or the Cow Palace which is are publicly owned by the city), and back to back NCAA championships and he won that last championship in style, going undefeated even with the "Russell rules", newly instituted NCAA rules that were designed to limit his effectiveness, in place and without the help of KC Jones, his future Celtic teammate, who was ineligible to play.

The point im making here is that YES Russell was a perfect fit for the Celtics, with its plethora of Hall of Fame shooters and defenders complementing his rebounding and defense but at the same time Russell succeed, and DOMINATE in less than ideal basketball situations. This is what true greatness is all about. Ask MJ how many NCAA championships he has won without his upperclassman James Worthy.

Lets not forget that stats tell an incomplete picture of the player's contributiuon. They only measure the quantity NOT THE QUALITY of the player actions. Also, conventional stats fail to acknowledge valuable team contributions like help defense, picks etc. And besides, Russell's less than stellar scoring output is due to the fact that Red Auerbach put him in a defensive and rebounding role on the team. In college, Russ averaged somewhere around 20 pts. and 20rebs. As a Celtic, Russ averaged only THIRTEEN field goal attempts as the team 3rd scoring option.

Lets not forget that the reason why a player would pile up stats is to WIN and Russ did a lot of winning(11 for 13, hey thats one hell of a stat!).

Still, Russ have some pretty good stats. 2nd in average mins played, 2nd in # of MVP's tied with Jordan), 2nd in career total and avg. rebs (but #1 in playoff avg.) Too bad blocks werent counted (im saying it now, if blocks were counted, Wilt wouldve been number one NOT Russell. If its a stat, expect wilt Chamberlain to own that stat).

Going back to the question, YES, Jordan was over hyped by the media which lead a lot of people to OVERRRATE his greatness. He is GREAT yes but he's not the greatest.

Bill Russell: 5 MVP's, 11 rings

Kareem: 6MVP's, 6 rings

Jordan: 5MVP's, 6 rings

I usually put Russ and Kareem over Jordan (especially if we count theircollegecareers) but i could accept Jordan snagging 2nd place in lieau of Jabbar in certain circumstances but MJ beating a guy who won 5MVP's and 11 rings in 13 (more like 12.5) playing years, NOT A CHANCE.
have you ever seen michael jordan play???

he has 5 guys guarding him and he still scores. dont tell me he doesnt pass he gets 8 dimes a game. if you watch bird, magic, and jordan play on the same court you say jordan is better than the other two by a long mile. thats all i gots to say.
G.O.A.T. overrated?
THe problem with your conclusion is that it is based on stats. Statistics do not tell how good players are across the board. You have to watch them play and judge from that. Oscar was phenominal for his time, but he is nowhere near as good as MJ. If you watch both of them play, you see a huge difference in athletic ability and even skill level. The same goes for Wilt. Statistically, he is the most dominant player ever. But if you watch one of his old games, and then watch a game of Olajuwon or Shaq, you see a big difference. People that say that Shaq is just big should watch some of Wilt's games.

As far as MJ goes, I think he is very UNDERrated. If you watch some old Bulls games, especailly from 90-93, they were really not a great team. They really struggled when Jordan was out of the game, even Pippen. He wasn't just a scorer, he made everybody else better.

Don't go by stats people. Watch these guys play before you judge.
MJ was the BEST I've seen and still is!! No one has came close to measuring up to the way MJ played!! I miss MJ!
what!!!???
Seriously are u crazy have you ever seen micheal jordan play! Because to ask this stupid *** question you would have too! he was still underated for how amazing he was on the court. think about it he played on the same team as scottie pippen and still dominated the floor. Also when the bulls won there three back to back to back titles in 1991-1993 they went through some pretty specatcular teams like MAGIC'S Lakers Clyde's Blazer's And Barkley's Sun's and also two years later brought another 3 titles (Because he wanted to play in th MLB or else he would have probably had 2 more titles and 8 back to back titles)back to chicago how many players in the history of the game have ever done that one micheal jordan and not to mention that he won 5 mvp's over his career 10 scoring titles i dont think that jordan could have gaurded himself if he wanted to.(Jordan who was also a good defender) so if anything he might have been underated because seriously how many players today have done half as much as ive mentioned if anything he was underrated
No, Michael Jordan is not overrated. Stats has to be judged in its context to compare Wilt Chamberlain's stats to Jordan's is a bit to simplistic. The talent pool for basketball lack the depth that it does during Jordan's era.

Jordan's greatness was not just his talent and highlight reel dunks. If it was just that then there would be others as good as him. What separates him from the rest are the attributes that I have just mentioned combine with an all around game - best scorer ever, great defensive player and a killer instinct that is unparalleled. I was a NY Knick fan back during Jordan's days and I could not tell you how many time he broke my heart in the playoffs. Every time I thought the Knicks had a chance, Jordan took over the game. Then if the verdict was still being decided during the last moments, he would always do something to win the game. Its not just game winning shots, its the passes and even the defensive plays (stripping Karl Malone of the ball when the Jazz was about to win one of the games in the Finals). I can't think of a player in team sports with the total package that Jordan possesses. Therefore he deserve all of the praise he has gotten.
Well... Bill Russell has 10 rings (i think), so does that make him the greatest? well... Jordan no doubt is up there top 3 but im not sure quite number one. The reason why he is put as number 1 is because he brought the NBA to a whole new level, because of him there is a stronger fan base. They thought basketball would die without MJ, but it didnt. MJ made the NBA more popular and spread to Europe. MJ is NOT overrated, though... some of his fans are just because he makes shoes... and those fans bug me. Jordan did it all and is arguably the best all around player of all time.
personally i think that he is a good player just a little overrated cuz everyone went over the top since he was the "new thing" no one was ever like him...kno what i mean??? so he was a little but he is/was a great player
He wasnt overrated(maybe a little hyped) but Jordan had his game fixed. He had his style %26amp; scores. He would keep up with both and turn outto be a great player atthe end of every NBA game, so he was not overrated and deserved all MVP titles and awards.
NO WAY!!!...He was great......... basketball hasn't been the same since he retired
Jordan cannot be overrated he won 6 championships with nobodies on his team and if someone says scottie pippen isnt a nobody see wat he did without jordan
Jordan is the single greatest player to ever grace the court..he turned dunking into an art and he will always be remembered for his skill on da court...I like dr.j better though but i never really was a fan of jordan cuz...KNICKS ALL THE WAY SON WALT FRAZIER=PWNAGE
WHAT!!! O.V.E.R.R.A.T.E.D.?????M....J....?I dont know?
No way was he overrated. You completely wasted your time writing all of that out.
Michael Jordan is not overrated! MICHAEL JORDAN IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE BEST PLAYER TO EVER PLAY THE GAME PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!
You've made a point, but I don't think M Air J is overrated, but just Magic and Bird etc. are underrated. They weren't back in the day, but people are slowly forgetting about them sadly.
No, actually Jordan is one of the few players in history who was actually BETTER than his hype. In the modern league, every star player is overrated for more than he is actually worth because the NBA has turned into a profit-first business.
