Jordans 63 vs. Kobes 81???

Jordan scoring 63 on the Celtics in the playoffs in only his second year in the league is far more of an accomplishment then 81. Jordan had to post his numbers against the CHAMPIONS!!!!

The 1986 Celtics won 67 games, going 40-1 at the Boston Garden. Bird won his third consecutive MVP award after having arguably his finest season, and Walton won the Sixth Man of the Year Award. They would win their 16th and last championship to date, easily defeating the Houston Rockets in the NBA Finals.

Not only did Jordan do this in the playoffs, but he also did it against one of the greatest teams in history, and against much more lenient rules for the defense. Remember that back in the 80's, you could basically mug an offensive player and you better believe the Celtics got the benefit of the doubt. In todays NBA when you sneeze on an offensive player they get to to the line!

I do agree that Kobe's 81 is more impressive then Wilts 100, but when you put it in context Jordan outshines Kobe!

Jordans 63 vs. Kobes 81???nba salary cap

Dear kevhutch15,

81 is amazing really, but you know better MJ have put up too many great stats to mention. Give them their 81 all they want and it's already written in history as the SECOND best point effort in NBA history, even though Jordan put that up in the play-offs against Boston it's okay, I know you know better.

Hope this helps.

Jordans 63 vs. Kobes 81???nba rumors ,nba teams

even if jordan scores 181 pts. if his team still lose, thats non-sense.
it doesn't matter if its not a W.

it is impressive that he's a 2nd year and is doing it against the celtics and all but, so what?

its like you're playing against someone and you have flashy moves and great control and everything, but you cant make your baskets. it doesn't matter what you do in the game, b/c the other guy beat you. what are you going to say when someone ask who won. "oh, i broke his ankles, who cares about who won?"
Jordan was the best. He helped his team win 6 world championships. No B.i.tc.hing, no whining about getting better talent. he just went out there and took the game over. I think Kob wants to emulate jordan.Kob's a high flyer and can hit the threes like Jordan and he's got more years of ballingahead of him.maybe he'll do something that will win you over.
first that wasnt his second year maybe his 2nd full season but not his second year also that 63 came in double over time in a losing effort Kobe shot a higher percentage and took less shots so how is 81 not better than 63 when you take less shots alos Kobe was hitting fadeways falling out f bounds and just lighting up the defense but at the end of the day the W is key oh yeah and Kobe brought them back from 18 down
they are both great....
wilt chamberlain would be the best player out of all of them because of his stats but mj would be better then kobe because of stats long term and short term and kobe isn't know world wide while mj almost everyone knows his name
Why is everyone still trying to compare Kobe Bryant to "The Man." As far as I'm concerned Kobe Bryant is no where near Jordan. What you Kobe Bryant fans don't' realize is that Shaquille O'Neal won those three championships for the Lakers, not Bryant. Since the departure of O'Neal Kobe Bryant hasn't done anything to prove he can lead the Lakers to a championship, possibly this year but that's about it. If you think about it Jordan really didn't have anyone as far as a center during those 6 championships, 91-93 %26amp; 96-98, no one even comparably close to O'Neal. As far as years are concerned, Jordan playedcollegebasketball for UNC, winning an NCAA Championship in 1982, Kobe Bryant didn't. Jordan entered the NBA around the age of 21-22, Kobe entered around the age of 17-18, so of course Kobe's got about 4 more years on Jordan as far as their NBA careers go. During his second year Jordan missed 64 games due to a broken foot, imagine if he hadn't been out that year. Jordan is a 14x All-Star, Kobe 10x's, Jordan 2x Slam Dunk Champion, Kobe Bryant once, MJ 1985 Rookie of the Year, Kobe Bryant NBA All-Rookie Second Team 1997. Jordan 3x All-Star game MVP, Kobe 2x NBA All-Star MVP, Jordan 5x MVP, 6x MVP Finals, Kobe ?????? Jordan 10x All-NBA First Team Selection, Kobe 5x's 1st team, 2x's 2nd team, 2x's 3rd team seleciton. Jordan 9x NBA All-Defensive selection and Kobe Bryant 7x's. While I will admit Kobe Bryant is pretty good, he's still no Michael Jordan. I still have yet to see Kobe Bryant win the Championship with a 72-10 record.
Kobe's 81 Kobe Bryant is the better play no offense Jordan
Why are Kobe lovers making such a big deal out of his 81 point performance against the second worst defensive team that season. Toronto gave up 104.1 points per game and had a -3.0 point margin differential against every opponent they faced, meaning they would loose by at least 3 points every game. Kobe wasn't the only player who has had a field day against a subpar Toronto team that season. Allen Iverson has scored 42 points on 61.5% shooting against Toronto. Gilbert Arenas has lit them up for 35 points on 52.4% shooting and 50% from 3point range. Heck, even Vince Carter got his 42 points on 51.4% shooting and 60% from 3point range against Toronto. Every lucky dog has his day. Iverson, Arenas, and Carter could have scored more but they just weren't as greedy as Ko-ME because they do recognize the presence of their teammates. What Kobe accomplished during that game was a mirage or a fluke. I bet the Toronto players guarding Kobe got so caught up in his performance that they forgot to play defense because they thought they were watching him on T.V. How can you compare that zero defensive performance to competing against a championship contending team that features a frontline of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Robert Parish in the playoffs? I thought Kobe fans were just blind. I didn't know they were that clueless.

Kobe Bryant Sucks!
Jordan is the man, but Kobe was more impressive. Scoring 63 point is impressive, but if you were to ask Jordan he would have preferred to win even if he only scored 10 points. You play the game to win, not just score points.
Kobe's 81 is not more impressive than Wilt's 100. It may be equally impressive because Kobe is a perimeter player. MJ's performance is more important than Kobe's because it came against the eventual champion and his team would not have been in the game without what MJ did. Oh yeah, and it was the Playoffs!
Kobe once scored 62 in just 3 quarters against Dallas Mavs....is that not enough to outshine that 63 against the celtics in OT by MJ??
MJ lost that game and if you lose the game it makes it look kinda bad and MJ scored 63 in over time kobe scored 81 in a regular game but the main thing is you have to win the game if you are able to score that much !

______________________________________...

but this one should make sense kobe scored 62 in ONLY THREE QUARTER ..62 in three quarter he didnt play in 4th cuz they were blowing mavs out anyway MJ 63 in overtime or kobe 62 in three quarter ?
jordan scored 63 and lost the game kobe scored 81 and won

w's always count more
Yall say Jordan but did yall c the Raptors game.. Toronto was blowing out the Lakers thats the point that needs to get across: Kobe carried that team and it eventually led him to 81 pts and if you dont think thats convincing how about when he scored 62pts in 3qtrs.. and I think Jordan lost against the Celtics. Yall say Kobe was a ballhog but what did Jordan do before he got Scottie Pippen...THE SAME THING... He was just as selfish.
First off, did you even see the Jordan game?

Boston's philosophy was that one player was not going to beat them. So they LET Jordan get his points. They figured he wasn't going to score 100, and he sure as hell wasn't going to involve his teammates.

After it almost came back to bite them, they played tighter on Jordan, and held him to 19 points in the next game (only 5 in the final 3 quarters).

It took Jordan 2 overtimes to reach 63 points. Kobe and Wilt did theirs in a regulation game.

Jordan LOST his game, including missing a wide open 15 footer at the end of the first overtime that would have won it.

Kobe and Wilt both won their games.

I see what your saying, but I'd still go with:

Wilt %26gt; Kobe %26gt; Jordan

BTW ...don't forget about Elgin Baylor's 61 points against the Celtics in game 5 of the 1962 finals. He even won that game!

Edward G (below)

Jordan Jocking at it's finest....LMAO!

Jordan was a 30% 3 point shooter at best. I highly doubt Kobe would want to shoot 3's like him.

________________

What are you asking? Jordan made 19 of 21 from the free throw line, so it wasn't like the Celtics weren't getting called for fouls.

It was a great performance against the greatest team in history. But again, the Celtics were so dominant that season, that they tended to "play down" to their competition. The Bulls only won 30 games, so it wasn't like Boston had to "get up" for thios game.

Michael Jordan was not yet the phenomenon that we was to become at this point. The Celtics knew that one player was not going to beat a great team , so they didn't play Jordan that tight. And we got to see what happened when they did (game3).
Points or not, What was amazing about Kobe's game is that he single handedly brought the Lakers back from a giant deficit to win. Jordan single handedly brought the Bulls back from a giant deficit to lose.

I say Kobe.
